Rules
and Regulations
Playing
rules are those of USA Hockey playing rules except those listed below.
General:
1.
All U.S.A. and Michigan Amateur Hockey Association
playing rules will be used.
2.
All players and coaches (maximum of four) must sign
in prior to each game. All players must be properly registered and proof must be
provided to tournament representative prior to the start of the first game.
3.
All locker rooms will be assigned by tournament.
Rooms must be left clean, without damage and all tape must be properly disposed
of. The tournament personnel will inspect locker rooms before and after each
game. A representative must be present during inspection. Teams will be
financially responsible for any damage to the facility.
4.
Spectators must be “in control” at all times.
Any spectator creating a scene, yelling at officials, banging on dasher board
glass, or in general disturbing the game will result in removal from the arena.
Failure to comply with a request by tournament representatives to leave will
result in a call to the proper authorities (police).
5.
Zero tolerance rules are in effect for the duration
of the tournament.
6.
The tournament reserves the right to start a game
up to fifteen (15) minutes prior to the posted game time. It is recommended
teams be at the arena forty-five (45) minutes to one (1) hour prior to the
assigned game time.
7.
All games will be curfew clock except the
semi-final and championship games.
8.
Each team must provide a cellular telephone number
at the tournament registration table for notification of standings/problems etc.
Standings/scores will be posted in the host arena.
9.
Handshake between teams will take place after each
game.
10. There will be no ice resurfacing during overtime play. Teams will not switch ends after the third period.
11. Any game with a 5 goal differential will be running time at the start of the third period (or anytime there after) and willn't revert back.
Teams:
1.
The team listed first on the schedule will be
designated the home team.
2.
The home team will wear white/light colored
sweaters. Visitors will wear dark colored sweaters.
3.
All teams must be in matching sweaters and
stockings, with the only exception being the goaltender.
Time
Periods:
1.
All games (senior and below) with the exception of
the elite divisions will have three (3) 12 minute stop periods with a three (3)
minute warm up prior to the start of the game.
2.
All 12 & Under elite (PeeWee A/AA) & 14
& Under elite (Bantam A/AA) division games will be three (3)
12 minute stop periods. All 16 & Under (Midget A/AA) and 19
& Under elite division games will be three (3) 15 minute stop periods. All
elite divisions will have a four (4) minute warm up prior to the start of the
game.
3.
There will be no
“time-outs” in the round robin play. A 1 min. time out (one per team) may be
taken in the semi-final and championship games.
4.
The warm up clock will start at the sounding of the
rink buzzer immediately after the closure of the resurfacing machine doors. Teams
must not attempt to enter the ice surface prior to the closure of the
resurfacing equipment access doors.
5.
There will be no overtime in the round robin play.
Games may end with a tied score. In semi-final and championship games, overtime
periods (sudden death of 5 minute stop time) will be played as indicted in the
Tie Breaker-Overtime section. Any penalties called may result in a 4 on
3, or 3 0n 3. Penalties called late in regulation time will carry over into
overtime.
6.
All
games will be curfew clock except in the semi-final and championship games.
Standings/Advancement:
1.
Advancement after round robin play – three (3)
games will determine by points acquired in round robin play.
2.
Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1)
point for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss.
3.
The top two (2) teams from each division advance to
the championship or semi-final round depending on the division. Single four (4)
team divisions – top two (2) teams advance to the championship round.
Divisions with semi-final spelled out in the schedule – 1st place
of the Red Division plays the 2nd place of the Blue Division in
semi-finals, 1st place of Blue Division plays 2nd place of
the Red Division. Both divisions – 2 semi final games. (crossover)
4.
Where (crossover/same) division semi-final games are played,
winners of semi-final advance to championship game.
5.
In the event teams have the same number of wins and
losses after round robin play, tie breaking formula listed below will be used.
Tie
Breaker – Round Robin:
1.
Total points acquired during round robin play
if tied go to #2
2.
Head to head play between teams tied
if tied go to #3
3.
Goal differential (goals against subtracted from
goals for)
if tied go to #4
4.
Most # goals scored in round robin play.
if tied go to #5
5.
Least # goals scored against in round robin play.
if tied go to #6
6.
Least number of penalty minutes in round robin
play.
If tied go to #6
7.
Last resort: Coin toss.
Called by coach of home team.
Tie
Breaker – Overtime/Shoot-out
1.
If semi-final or championship game is tied at the
end of regulation time then the following will apply.
a.
One (1) five (5) minute 5-on-5 sudden death period
will be played. If a winner is not decided then go to (b).
b.
One (1) five (5) minute 4-on-4 sudden death period
will be played. If a winner is not decided then go to (c).
c.
One (1) five (5) minute 3-on-3 sudden death period
will be played. If a winner is not decided then go to (d).
d.
Each team must pick five shooters in order of
shooting. Each team will take one shot alternating teams with each player. If
still tied after all five (5) shooters then go to (e). Home team will shoot
last.
e.
Each team will continue to place another shooter on
the ice (other than a player that has taken a shot) until the whole roster is
gone through, or a winner is determined. The first team to get a goal without
the other team scoring will be deemed the winner.
Awards:
1.
Individual and team awards will be presented at the
end of the championship games. Teams should line up on their respective blue
lines with awards presented to the Finalists and Champions. The Champions will
receive their awards second.
Protests:
1.
Calls made by the on ice officials can not be
protested.
2.
A protest may be filled with the Tournament
Director with a $75.00 non refundable fee (if protest is unfounded).
3.
All protests must be filled within one (1) hour of
the completion of the game in question. Items such as illegal player/age/non
registered coach, etc. are the types of things that may be protested.
